                Bhagalpur National College is located within the municipal limit of Bhagalpur City, one of the oldest Divisional Headquarters of Bihar. Situated along the National Highway (NH-80) linking Patna-Kolkata. The college is one of the premier constituent units of T.M. Bhagalpur University. The college has a homogenous sprawling campus stretching an area of about 5 acres. The river Ganga flows only one km away the North of the college.
                Bhagalpur, popularly known as a silk city has a great historical antiquity. Champa being the nucleus of the city was the capital of Anga Mahajanpad where Danvir Karn of the Mahabharata had built a gorgeous fort at Karn garh. The city since then passed through vicissitudes of growth and sprawls under the hands of several emperors who during their rule altered the architectural profile of the fort.

The famous Jain legend Basupujya had his birth place and Panch Kalyanak just adjacent to Karn garh in the west. Lord Buddha had also stayed at this sacred place champa for some time and preached sermon to his Buddhi Vikchhuk and upasakas (disciples.) Bhagalpur has been a famous commercial and industrial centre with specialization in silk industry and trade since time immemorial. The city possession unique socio culture milieu and tradition. There is a good amalgamation of Marwari, Bengali, Angika and Urdu languages and cultures. Eminent distinguished personalities like R.N. Tagore, Sarat Chandra and Ashok Kumar etc; lived here.

      Established in 1960, the college passed through phases of growth and expansion and produced a number eminent personalities in sphere of politics, administration, social services and academic. The college is managed and maintained by T.M. Bhagalpur University. There are 35 teachers imparting teaching in fifteen subjects of the faculties of Arts. Science and Commerce. In addition a professional course (OMSP) sponsored by the UGC is run by the college. Teachers of the college in good number participate in seminars, workshops, conferences and the academic bodies. They publish research papers in national and international journals. There are more than 3000 students enrolled in different courses. It is a co-educational institution imparting teaching of boys and girls. As the college is located at the fringe of the city, it has greater rural command area from where students from far flung villages come to attend classes and returned by evening. With the construction of a bridge on the Ganga (Vikramshila Setu), Students in large number from North Bihar got easy access to educational institutions in Bhagalpur. The college has a proposal to start professional courses in two more subject i.e. BCA and BBA. 
       The courses of studies are in conformity with national standard based on UGC model curriculum. Seminars, Symposium, conference, infraction, Project-work are common features of the institution. The college is reputed for quality teaching, fair examination and in every sphere; it ranks on the top as a model institution. The college tries its best to inculcate among the students the fine human values for enlightens of not only their personality but also their contributions towards the society and the national at large.


                               The college is a constituent unit, managed and maintained by the University. The monthly salary grants of teaching and non-teaching staff is disbursed & senate of the University. The development Committee of the college takes its decisions for proper and smooth functioning of the college, which is approved by the University. The University governs the administrative and planning policies. The Principal of the College takes part in the various committees of the University. He is the Chairman of the college level committee and thereby monitors the different activities. Many of the heads of the department and Senior teachers are the member of various committees at the university and college level. The financial management is considered crucial in the development process. The revenue raised by internal resources does not fulfill the requisite requirements.
           The reservation policy of the govt. in admission is strictly followed. The employees of the college are assessed through C.R. S. The college management is administered solely by the rules and regulation of the University, State Govt. and UGC. Teaching is done by different methods i.e. lecture method, demonstration method, audio-visual methods. Classroom teaching is given top most priority. Students devote maximum time in Practical & Project work. Learning is based on classroom teaching library and other experiences. Students learn so many things and develop their skills through various academic pursuits. The evaluation of both the teachers and students is monitored in order to maintain high standard of education.
