Department of Botany

Introduction

The Department of Botany is one of the oldest departments in the Bhagalpur National college, Bhagalpur.  It was established in 1960 as an independent department for teaching biology/botany to intermediate and graduate students. The present building of the department came into existence in 2003 under the supervision of dynamic and skilled faculty. Currently, this department is running with 01 regular Assistant Professor, 01 guest faculty member and 02 supporting staff. The department is committed to offer teaching to intermediate and graduate level students. CBCS syllabus in prescribed courses of MJC, MIC and MDC Botany with theoretical and practical impart knowledge are being offered to undergraduate students. This course provides an all-inclusive knowledge in a diverse range of subjects with lower to higher plants, microbes, biochemistry, cell biology, systematics of plant flora, Indian ecology, environment, commodities and forestry, cytogenetics, molecular genetics and biotechnology. The course is covered with classroom lectures, practical and field studies. In fact, this is the only department which is recipient of research funds like UGC Start-Up grant. The proficient faculty have more than 15 research articles published in journals of national and international repute.
