Department of Chemistry

Introduction to Department of Chemistry:

The Department of Chemistry is a branch within academic institutions that focuses on the study of matter, its properties, composition, structure, and the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. The department typically offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Chemistry and related fields.

Department of Chemistry (B. N. College Bhagalpur) is determined to provide the quality education among science students. The department is to also dedicated to develop an interest and curiosity towards chemistry. In this context, we are adopting several tools, viz., teaching through audio-visual mechanism, a model-based deliberation of molecular structures for better understanding and live session of online classes. Along with theoretical classes, we are also providing conceptual practical classes. As per our observation, each student taking admission in our college has almost zero practical class experience, so we start and introductory level practical classes.

Organized Event:

A one-day National Level Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

A National level workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized by recommendation of IQAC & Dept. of Chemistry in Collaboration with Govt. of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Office of the Controller General of Patents, Design and Trademarks on 15.03.2022. Almost 124 participants have registered in the event including all faculty members of the college.

Mission and Objectives of the Department

The primary mission of the Department of Chemistry is to provide high-quality education and training in the field of chemistry. This includes preparing students for careers in research, industry, education, and various scientific disciplines. The department aims to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of chemical principles.

Areas of Study

The department typically covers several key areas of chemistry as per curriculum design by concerned authority:

  1. Organic Chemistry: The study of carbon-containing compounds and their reactions.
  2. Inorganic Chemistry: The study of inorganic compounds, typically those that do not contain carbon-hydrogen bonds.
  3. Physical Chemistry: The study of the physical properties of molecules, the forces that act upon them, and their energy changes.
  4. Analytical Chemistry: The study of the composition of materials and the development of tools and techniques to measure these compositions.
  5. Environmental Chemistry:Environmental Chemistry studies chemicals in air, water, and soil to understand and reduce pollution.

Academic Programs

The department often engages in outreach activities to promote science education in the community and collaborates with other academic departments and research institutions to advance the field of chemistry. In this context, our research works are collaborated with:
