About Department of History

The Department of History is one of the oldest departments of Bhagalpur National College, Bhagalpur founded in 1960. The Department of History is situated in the 1st floor of Arts block building. An expert, efficient and well qualified team of History Department ensures quality education and all round development of students. Currently, this department is running with 03 regular Assistant Professor and 01 guest faculty member with three lecture hall. It is a composite department teaching varied courses in Indian History, Non-Indian History giving emphases to emerging areas like social History, religion, literary and craft cultures, archaeology; architectural, urban and agrarian histories; histories of caste, marginalized groups, women, nationalism, and identity politics in contemporary India.

We offer Courses determined by the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Two streams of courses are offered, namely, B.A. Honours and B.A. Programme with History as Major/Minor in the discipline. These courses include a pool of specialised papers offered as Generic Elective. Besides, the Department offers special papers under the VAC and MDC streams.

At present time when history is deliberately distorted and presented to the new generation, which is instrumental in creating chaos in society. We strive to make the students empowered through a proper footing on the right history leading to brighter future to provide the relevant knowledge, attitude and skills to function effectively in the teaching profession. And also, to be of academic excellence and be committed to afford quality education opportunities and services in the teacher training field to meet the needs of the educational sector and also contribute for the social wellbeing, national growth and to meet global competencies.

Scope of History

The scope of history is very wide; it is the story of man in relation to totality of his behaviour. History starts with the past; makes present its sheet-anchor and points to the future.
